Welcome to the SociologyOnline preview! We have created this site to provide an overview of a new course work package for introductory sociology. The textbook authored by Lynn Nelson, Sociology in Global Perspective, is its central resource. At the web site SociologyOnline, the textbook is integrated with additional tools for active learning that invite students to explore the social world in a new way.

Human relations of every kind are being profoundly reshaped by global developments, and the underlying rationale for Sociology in Global Perspective is that sociological insight is vital to understanding these changes and their implications.

The textbook is an historically grounded introduction that focuses on what we have learned through leading-edge research, and also what is at issue -- from the personal and local levels to the transnational. The chapters are springboards for lively engagement with questions of sociological significance. In joining the textbook with online resources for interaction and research, SociologyOnline aims to provide an environment for effective teaching and learning -- one that brings the power of information technology to the classroom in a compelling format and complements a broad variety of instructional approaches.
